Texas CEC Awards
Outstanding Professional Award
Recognizes a Texas member who contributes to the field of special education as an exemplary professional other than a classroom teacher (e.g., diagnostician, therapist, administrator). The award may honor a single notable achievement or sustained service over time.
Outstanding Chapter Awards
Texas CEC presents two annual awards to recognize student chapters that demonstrate exceptional engagement, leadership, and contributions to the field of special education. Each year, chapters will be evaluated across a broad set of indicators, including both foundational engagement and advanced contributions. Nominations are made by Texas CEC Board members only.
Rising Scholar Graduate Student Research Award
Honors an outstanding graduate student or emerging researcher whose scholarly work shows promise in advancing special education.
Kathleen Varner Service Award
Established in 1985 in honor of past president Kathleen Varner, who made significant lifelong contributions to individuals with disabilities and to Texas CEC. This award recognizes members who have demonstrated outstanding service in similar ways.
